Sikkim - The Wonderland

My journey started as I bid goodbye to my parents. I was going with my maternal grandparents whom I call 'Nani' and 'Nanu' to Sikkim. We boarded the train for Kanpur which took two days to reach there. People at Bhopal were asking us if we had boarded a train or if it was a Bullock cart, It was damn slow. We reached Kanpur at night so we needed a hotel to spend the night, and thus some of us left searching for a hotel, while we were clicking photos in the homeless look. We were in a mess, but that's what a journey is all about- experiences. Finally, they came to take us to a hotel for which we crossed the dark way with no human existence but dogs to accompany. As we reached the hotel, we ran into it or else dogs would have their tasty dinner or at least dessert.

In the morning we booked two Scorpio as we were 15 people in total, to reach Gangtok. My youngest Mamu and I were recklessly using mobile right from the start of the trip which ended up as we were feeling dizzy and uneasy. It was just after 30 minutes that we reached one restaurant where we had our breakfast. That's the different thing that I was at my worst. My eldest Mamu's wife whom I call 'Mumani' told us that we should not use Mobile on curvy roads or else we would feel restless, dizzy and uneasy, but she was too late to inform us still we took care in future rides. I felt uneasy for more than half of the way which took approximately nine hours. After that my Mamu was unable to take that anymore and thus changed the car, because of which my cousin joined us resulting me on the window seat as she went in where I was seated, and I came where Mamu was sitting. I felt better as I slept taking the support of the window. And when I opened my eyes it seemed like a new place. We were to enter Sikkim, and the aura of this place was present even on entry door of the state. It was totally a different feeling, the place was strict with rules and thus clean, letting you breathe fresh air.

We got into the state after providing all the documents at the entrance. We were moving with good pace letting the air touch the sensitive strings of my soul. Finally, we were at the bottom of the Gangtok mountain, it was dark till then, and I was able to hear the sound of some insect. It wasn't clear which insect, but it was adding beauty to that exotic moment. We started moving up, and the view was unbelievable. The sky was looking like it was covered with a sparkling blanket. It was such an adorable and alluring moment. The fascination it brought to my heart is hard to explain. As the Scorpio was moving up, I was able to feel myself floating in the air with excitement. As we reached the entrance of the city, we were asked to leave the Scorpio there itself and move ahead in a small car which could easily run on the curvy roads. I think that was just a witty way of making money. As we entered there and started visiting hotels, brokers would follow us and try to take the credit of our visit resulting in an increase in the price of the room. But somehow we managed to get a decent room. The hotel was entirely different from southern hotels. It was decorated with a painting of dragons.

From the next morning, we started our journey to visit all the tourist place of Gangtok. There were many flower gardens, sacred sites and fountains to visit. Every single place had it's own charm to spread. There was one ropeway which was so long that it connected two mountains. The atmosphere was completely new to witness, everyone was well dressed and was with stylish looks, girls were all with beautiful makeup while boys had different hair styles. People had small eyes there, and they were all fit, I don't remember a single person who had a big belly, they would walk all the way to every single place, they never used wheels. After spending two to three days in Gangtok, we left for 'Zero point'. It was the only place where I was going to have a glimpse of snow in that month of May. We were going to move to another mountain, and as we started moving up against the gravity, the beauty was hypnotising. The flowers and the weather were so serene and calm together with the essence of soothing breeze that I forgot about all the worries. We were to leave early for that place, but as usual, we were late, so we were on the curvy roads when the Sun went down leaving darkness behind with us. Now our lives were in the hands of a driver who was thankfully expert with those hills. There was one point where it became all foggy, and then we realised that they were clouds. It became so cold as we moved up and at one place our Scorpio was just at the edge of the road where there was deep valley on the right. I was sitting on the right side and was able to see the deep valley like a cherry on the cake, the tire of that side was exactly on edge if slightest misshape would have taken place none of us could have survived. But thanks to the driver we were safely taken to our hotel. And as we reached there the light went off, it was a small village, and thus there was not going to be light for other days also. We had our dinner in candle light and then went to sleep in a horror house. Yup, it was as dark as horror house, and it actually felt like a horror movie scene. It was the most difficult night to spend. There was the continuous noise of water flowing. We assumed that there must be a river by the side. I even got up in the middle of the night with horror but was taken care by my another Mamu.

Finally, we got up at 4 a.m. It was the first time in our whole trip that we were on time, all credit goes to that dark night. My eldest Mamu called me with amusement as he wanted us out of the hotel. I went running and what I saw was unbelievable. Mountains covered with snow surrounded us. It was a blissful movement, the night spent in the dark was worth the view. Though it was cold, it felt perfect. The breeze was filling up our lungs with a lovely aroma. I couldn't get enough of it. After getting ready, we left for one of those mountains. The way to the mountain was magical, and there were beautiful flowers, a stream of pure water was flowing giving the adorable view of the different stones. As we reached the snow, we played well and threw snowballs at each other and slid on the slides made of snow. We couldn't stay on snow for so long as there was a dearth of oxygen due to high altitude. And thus we left after twenty minutes, from that mountain we planned to go to Darjeeling directly but it was going to take much time, so we stayed at Gangtok. We left for Darjeeling next morning. Again our journey on another curvy road started. The view at the top of Darjeeling was another miracle. There were beautiful red roses, pink roses and other flowers, and trees were of a new shape, I felt mesmerised to be there in such beautiful and exotic place. There was a train that would travel throughout the city, but we were late for it. There were museum, zoo and parks. There was a big market that opens only on Sundays. Horses were provided for a ride. My cousin took a ride and then we moved for shopping. There was those hand made fans which we see in Chinese movies, I bought two for my younger brother and a handmade bracelet with his name etched on it. There were tea gardens from where we took tea packets. The tea made by them was mesmerising, and I took two of the cups while I don't drink even one at home. There we did rock climbing and many more other adventure games.

We finally left for home after a long trip to Sikkim. While changing train, I lost my bag with some important stuff. After two days of train journey, I finally got my bed and parents. I felt like being in clouds in my bed after a long voyage.
